The BBQ Pit Boys grill up some reef n beef burgers at the Pit using fresh ground Beef blended with fresh caught Shrimp. Its real easy to do with these few simple tips.
For these Shrimp in Beef Burgers we used the following ingredients:
3 1/2 - 4 lb Ground beef ( we used ground chuck )
1 lb Fresh Shrimp
SPG seasoning
Fish Sauce
1 Lime
Mayonnaise
Ketchup
Method
First up dice the shrimp up finely and combine with the ground Beef mixing well so the shrimp is evenly throughout the beef. Season with SPG or use your favorite seasoning. Form the burger patties into about 3/4 lbs each, you can make them smaller if you like.
Place the burgers directly over the coals on a medium heat, add a splash of the fish sauce flipping as needed. Both beef and shrimp are cooked at 145 f ( 63 C ) so cook the burgers to an internal temperature of 145 f.
The sauce dressing
Add equal parts of mayonnaise and Ketchup, squeeze in the juice on one lime and mix well
Serving
Serve the up your favorite burger buns and top with a good dollop of the sauce a slice of sweet vidalia onion.
Note
The Fish sauce is well worth looking for to use in this recipe, it can be found in Asian grocery stores and in many supermarkets.
Following widespread recognition of its ability to impart a savory Umami flavor to dishes, it has been embraced globally by chefs and home cooks.
It's made primarily from fermented Anchovy's ( Fermenting for up to two years ) and adds a whole level of flavor. It works well in many beef dishes as a seasoning , but use it sparingly.
